For everything you need to know about Born in a Car!
Welcome to Born in a Car, I’m so pleased that you’ve found me.
Hi, I’m Cheryl.
I was born in, and spent the first 40 years of my life in, Australia. Then I found the courage to pack up and leave. And since then my life has been more exciting than I ever dreamed it could possibly be.
I wasn’t the first person ever to move away from their comfort zone, their family, their country, or to try something different in order to make their life more interesting or exciting. But, I did it and it opened up more opportunities than I could have imagined!
I left Australia at the end of December, 2006, for a new adventure in Moscow, Russian Federation as an English teacher (ESL – English as a Second Language). I’d done my teacher training course in August of that year and with my freshly minted teacher’s certificate in my hot little hand I was off to find my future. You can read all about it here.
I started this blog in September 2018 for many reasons, but one of them was that I wanted a new challenge. Even though just by living in Russia I have new challenges daily, I thought that writing a blog could challenge me even more. I also wanted to share with you what I’ve been doing since I left my ‘homeland’ (although Australia doesn’t feel like home to me anymore), and maybe even give you some inspiration to do what I did and find an adventure somewhere out there in our big wide world.
If it’s your first time here, here’s some information to help you find your way around.
Who am I?
You can read about who I am here. But basically, I’m just someone living in Moscow, married to a wonderful man and teaching English. I’m a mum to a wonderful daughter, and as of 2017, I’m also a babushka.
